In 35 minutes I'll be on my way
walk half a day
to the office where I
dump history in the trash
mop up past movements
scrub out last week's meal
clean what I've cleaned the last 12 days.

Spots of bleach have messed up the floor
Coffee stains will never leave the carpets
The grout between tiles forever yellow (euw)
There's this floormat that I lifted yesterday
Underneath the floortiles were clean, cleaner, cleanest
unused, unlived
"More work to do", I thought
So, try to get to the bottom layer
again, day after day
But it's not gonna happen
too much hard dirt

Isn't life the same way
Just clear up the crap that falls over
try to keep the real you uncovered
It never stops
If you clean too hard you'll damage something
if you don't clean it'll get messy, heavy
people won't recognise you & leave you alone
Nobody wants to be alone
being real close to it only makes it worse
makes you work harder
but the hard dirt doesn't come off
how to get to it without permanent damage?

Unfortunately, you have to peel
and peel and peel and peel
maybe it will never come off
but at least yesterday's dirt will be gone.
